Velenosi Offida Pecorino, DOC from Marche, Italy.
Pecorino is the grape varaital and is thought to be an indigenous grape that grew wild on the Eastern Coastline of Italy. Named after pecora (Meaning Sheep) because the local sheep would often eat the grapes.
This bottle is a little older than I would prefer, but it still drank very well and added a nice ripe melon flavor that made it interesting. It has flavors of mint, lime, and peach, and is full bodied. The finish fell short, though I believe that’s do to the vintage being older.
One of my favorite things about wine, is that it is based in a deep tradition, but us ever evolving. There is always something to learn from every bottle.
